IT TOOK two years for Robert and Dot Lingard to build their dream car.

That effort is now reaping rewards and their 1927 Chev Roadster is dominating local car shows.

The Gympie couple rolled up the highway for the big event at Hervey Bay High yesterday and in a photo finish they won the top award of the event, The People's Choice.

They also won the Best Hotrod section.

A 1963 Red and Black Holden Taxi complete with meter and radio handset was just pipped by the pink machine.

Perfect weather ensured a big crowd and plenty of funds for Hervey Bay Meals on Wheels.

A sad day for motoring enthusiast the world over .

LOS ANGELES - May 11, 2012 - Carroll Shelby International, Inc., announced today that Carroll Hall Shelby, a man whose vision for performance transformed the automobile industry, has died at age 89. Mr. Shelby passed away yesterday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Born on Jan. 11, 1923, Carroll Shelby was one of America’s greatest success stories. Championship-winning racecar driver, “flying sergeant” wartime pilot, philanthropist, entrepreneur, car manufacturer and

racing team owner, he embodied the ingenuity, tenacity and grit over came many obstacle. He is perhaps the only person to have worked at a visible level with all three major American automobile manufacturers.

Carroll Shelby founded Carroll Shelby International, a publicly held corporation involved in many industries. His licensing arm has agreements with industry giants,and Electronic Arts. His car company, Shelby American, has a thriving parts business as well as a line with Mattel, Sony,Ford motor company and his own company had a line of muscle cars including the Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GTS. The Las Vegas- based company also manufactures a limited number of the 1960s Shelby 289 “street,” 289 FIA, 427 S/C and Daytona Coupe Cobras.

Shelby considered his greatest achievement to be the establishment of the Carroll Shelby Foundation(tm). Created in 1992 while Shelby was waiting for a heart transplant, the charity is dedicated to providing medical assistance for those in need, including children, educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs and benefitting the Carroll Shelby Automotive Foundation. Shelby remained active in the management of each of his companies and the Foundation until his death, even though he endured both heart and kidney transplants in the last two decades of his life.

Restricted vehicle use: Street rods registered under the scheme [LH9] have certain limitations placed on their use. This is reflected in the reduced fees and compulsory third party insurance premium.

Registered operators must confine their vehicle’s use to:-

. participating in events sanctioned by the Australian Street Rod Federation

. participating in rallies organised by incorporated car clubs

. participating in processions for which a Special Events Permit has been issued under the Transport Operations (Road Use Management –Accreditation and Other Provisions)

Regulation 2005

. exhibiting the vehicle in displays, fetes or similar functions conducted for religious, charitable or educational purposes

. ceremonial purposes (weddings, formals) involving immediate family members provided this is not done for fee or reward. Immediate family means parents, grandparents, sons, daughters, grandchildren but not extended family relationships such as nephews and nieces.

. preparing for, proceeding to, and returning from the above activities

. direct travel to and from an Approved Inspection Station for the purposes of obtaining a safety certificate before offering the vehicle for sale

. travel in order to have the vehicle repaired. Distance is not restricted in this circumstance. However, such travel must be reasonable and openly justified by the vehicle operator.

. road testing within a 15 kilometre radius from the place where the vehicle is garaged. The purpose of the travel must be to road test the vehicle following repair or restoration and not for any other purpose. This does not include use as a means of transport. ... "

This means any event that in not run by a Incorporated Club/ or does not have an ASRF Sanction/Travel permit should not be attended by club regoed cars.

The standard question thats asked is " How do I put a photo in the members list"

Its easy, Go to the members page , sign in , and over to the left in the Members area on the page , select EDIT PROFILE, Just go in there and add your favorite picture to your profile.

You can upload straight from your computer.

2013 ASRF Nationals will be held in Queensland.

TO ALL QUEENSLAND RODDERS

The ASRF NCC had their December meeting last Monday night and it was decided that the 2013 ASRF Nationals would be held in Queensland.

The vote was 4/2 in favour of us.

Good news for all of us and now the fun begins……..

The next meeting for the Nationals will be held at Loganholme 8pm 20th January 2011.

Everyone is welcome and we look forward to your contribution and input to make these Nationals an exceptional event.
